We also have other ensembles as part of our band:
BLASKAPELLE SHIPPENSBURG GERMAN BAND
Blaskapelle Shippensburg, our German Band, is directed by Kurt Richter and performs in the style of Bavaria, Austria and Egerland. This 18-piece group performs throughout the year, and is usually supported by an active ladies group that demonstrates traditional dances. All members are in full costume, and the band plays traditional and modern Wies’n Hits, popular songs from the Oktoberfest in Munich and other festivals.

SHIPPENSBURG SWING BAND
The Shippensburg Swing Band, under the direction of Vicki Baker, is a 20-plus member swing band located in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
The band features American swing music, the form that developed in the early 1930s and became a distinctive style by 1940 when it became the dominant form of popular music. Lead melodies of trumpets, trombones, and saxophones are placed on top of a strong rhythm of drums and bass, and produce danceable swing time drive and rhythm.
Presenting music by big band leaders such as Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Duke Ellington, the Shippensburg Swing Band will brings back pieces like “In the Mood”, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”, and “Moonlight Serenade” as well as many American “standards” from the 50’s and 60’s. Some are slow and romantic, others full of drive and a beat that gets you want to “Jump, Jive, an’ Wail.”
Whether you enjoy dancing to the tunes of these eras, or simply enjoy just listening to the music, we are sure you will enjoy coming out to hear the band bring back these memorable melodies.
